From football players to golfers to tv and comic cowboys, famous names were attached to Daisy air guns. But the most famous cowboy of the 1930s to promote a Daisy product was the comic strip cowboy, Red Ryder. That name was launched with a new Daisy lever action air rifle in 1940 and became the top air rifle for the next 20 years. The Red Ryder remains in production in the 21st century and remains a popular bb gun still.</p>
<p>Daisy launched another campaign in the 1960s called the &#8220;Spittin Image&#8221; series of rifles. As you probably guess from the name, each one of these bb rifles was a replica of a popular firearm. Replicas of the Winchester 94, Remington Fieldmaster among others. And the Red Ryder was reintroduced as a Spittin Image replica of the Marlin 30-30. In the late 60s and early 70s Daisy began producing ever more powerful bb and pellet rifles powered by pumped compressed air and CO2 cartridges.</p>

<p>compresses air, raises it to a higher pressure, and then</p>
<p>delivers it into the actual pneumatic system. This process can</p>
<p>also be used to generate a force that pulls (a vacuum) instead</p>
<p>of a force that pushes.</p>
<p>Next, there is the check valve and the directional valve. A</p>
<p>check valve is a one-way valve that is used to grant the</p>
<p>pressurized air access to the pneumatic system while at the</p>
<p>same time preventing backflow. The directional valve actively</p>
<p>controls the direction of the airflow to its correct source.</p>
<p>You might ask, &#8220;What happens if too much air is permitted into</p>
<p>the system?&#8221; For that there is the accumulator, which stores</p>
<p>compressed air to prevent potentially dangerous surges in</p>
<p>pressure while also ensuring efficient operation.</p>
<p>Finally, there&#8217;s the actuator. Pneumatic actuators convert the</p>
<p>stored compressed air into actual mechanical motion. Typical</p>
<p>pneumatic actuators are comprised of a piston, a cylinder, and</p>
<p>a configuration of valves and ports. In pneumatic systems, the</p>
<p>motion created by the actuator is usually rotary or linear.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Some folks opt for needle valves to throttle the flow of air into and out of the air cylinder, thereby reducing it&#8217;s speed. The problem with using a needle valve to control the speed of an air cylinder is that it throttles the compressed air flow equally in both directions.</p>
<p>If you are using a larger cylinder, by throttling the air into the cylinder, you are actually preventing the smooth cylinder stroke desired. As air pressure builds in the cylinder it will reach the point where it overcomes the friction of the piston and rod seals and the piston will start to move. As it moves, it increases the volume of the air space inside the cylinder behind itself. The piston moves toward one end of the cylinder creating a larger area behind than in front of it. This is an area into which air has to flow quickly to ensure that the piston keeps moving. If the air inrush cannot keep up with the increasing cavity size there will be insufficient pressure to keep the piston moving, and it will stop. So too will your piston rod, and whatever tooling you have installed on the end of it.</p>
